Kimberley Walsh is a girl who knows how to juggle. Over the last few years she has danced her way to the Strictly finals, wrote her autobiography, released a debut solo album, starred in West End musicals, presented TV shows and performed at arenas around the country.
Having taken time out to become a mother for the second time, to Cole last December, Kimberley is ready to juggle again. As well as being a full time mother to two boys, (Cole and Bobby) Kimberley has recently started recording again on a new music project and she has been working on creating Kimba’s Kids, a new clothing rang aimed at children. Over the last year Kimberley has been supporting Pampers-UNICEF in their campaign to eliminate maternal and newborn tetanus around the world. In between all of this Kimberley manages to blog for Hello!
Growing up as a child in Bradford, Kimberley would perform with her siblings at home and at school. In her teens, Kimberley performed in shows at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford city. “They were amateur shows but at quite a good level. I got a lot of training and that’s where I got the bug for it.”
Over the last years, Kimberley has been a regular on the West End Stage.
Elf The Musical, was Kimberley’s second time on the West End stage in 2015. She also won rave reviews for her role as Princess Fiona in Shrek in 2013. Last year, Kimberley joined Denise Van Outen for the musical, Sweet Charity. The week long run at Cadogan Hall in London was a sell out and received glowing reviews from the press.
Kimberley’s love of musicals was evident in her debut solo album. In 2012, she signed to legendary record label, Decca and released ‘Centre Stage’, an album of songs from musicals. The album charted in the top 20 and saw Kimberley perform songs from the collection at The National TV Awards and This Morning,
‘Centre Stage’ was Kimberley’s first solo release after ten years in Girls Aloud. As part of the hugely successful five piece girl group, Kimberley broke chart records, won awards and performed in arenas and stadiums across the country. The group had 21 consecutive top 10 hits, all their albums went platinum, with two hitting #1. The Guinness Book Of World Records named Girls Aloud as the 21st century’s most successful girl group. “My 11 years in Girls Aloud were amazing,” recalls Kimberley. “We had some incredible experiences and created memories I will treasure forever. And of course a whole wardrobe full of costumes.”
Outside of Girls Aloud and her solo work, Kimberley has collaborated with a diverse range of musicians. From Alfie Boe, Ne-Yo, Ronan Keating to Jamie Cullum, her choice of musical collaborators show off her versatility as a singer.
Kimberley is no stranger to TV presenting either. She had a weekly style slot on ITV’s This Morning. In 2010, she co-presented Viva’s weekly music show Suck My Pop and also fronted a one-off documentary for Sky 1 called Blue Jean Girl. Last year Kimberley was a guest presenter on both Lorraine and Loose Women. Kimberly has also presented live shows around popular events including The BAFTAs in 2010 as well as The X Factor in 2009.
As well as the small screen, Kimberley has hit the big screen too. Her first acting role was in the 2011 children’s movie Horrid Henry and in 2013 she starred in All Stars.
During Girls Aloud’s ‘Ten’ reunion album and tour of 2012, Kimberley signed up as a contestant on the #1 rated BBC TV show, Strictly Come Dancing. Grabbing time between promotional commitments with Girls Aloud, she rehearsed her dance routines for the weekly show. The hard work paid off when Kimberley bagged a place in the final.
